Get ready for an immersive curriculum, diving deep into green solutions and the nitty-gritty of making it happen.

About The Young African Leaders Initiative(YALI)

The YALI Regional Leadership Centres (RLCs) in partnership with Power Africa are promoting the utilization of environmentally conscious technologies to address the energy crisis across Africa. In support of female alumni engaged in the energy sector, a design challenge is being presented.

Women alumni interested in this initiative are encouraged to apply for a 12-week online program commencing in the first quarter of 2024. This program will feature an online curriculum focused on green energy, sustainability, and the SDGs, emphasizing practical learning. The curriculum will guide participants through the Empathise, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test approach, fostering experiential learning.

Throughout the program, alumni will share their experiences and enhance their expertise in critical areas requiring further sustainability practices and development. At the culmination of the learning period, participants will present their ideas to a panel of judges for evaluation. The top three winners will receive nominal funding for their project ideas and undergo a 6-month coaching period to assist them in prototype development.

Requirements for The Young African Leaders Initiative(YALI)

  • Applicants must be a Female alumni from the four YALI RLCs, active within the energy sector.
  • Based on the ideas submitted, 24 outstanding individuals will be selected to participate in the design challenge.   

Benefits

The challenge aims to champion Africa’s innovative approaches to sustainable green energy. Female alumni involved in the energy sector from the four YALI RLCs are encouraged to submit their applications. From the submissions, 24 exceptional individuals will be chosen to engage in the design challenge.

Benefits include:

  • Winning participants will obtain nominal funding for their project concepts and will undergo a six-month coaching program to assist in prototype development.

  • Applications open on the 27th of November 2023 and run for 3 weeks until 15th December 2023.
  • Selected participants will be announced on the 22nd of January 2023.
    *Please note that submissions will be the basis for participation in this program. Once selected, participants will work on individual project ideas throughout the Challenge but will also be grouped into different teams during the interactive online learning sessions and assignments.
